June Saints - The Italian Miracles
I think I haven't had a cramp from joy in a while. Yesterday, on June 24th, 2024, Italy scored in the 98th minute, securing a spot in the knockout stages. This June has been truly special for Italy, as we've been racking up incredible results across various sports.
With this edition of SlamT, we're back with weekly gems (we hope), and we're going to talk about what my country, Italy, has achieved this June.
Starting with Jannik Sinner, you all know that SlamT was founded on tennis, but we're expanding to other sports. Jannik became world No. 1 for the first time on June 10th, a huge milestone for the 22-year-old from Northern Italy. Overcoming players like Alcaraz and Djokovic was a mission, but mission accomplished. Jannik didn't stop there; he won his first grass tournament in Halle against the Polish player, Hurkacz. What a game!
There are two other players who made it to the tennis Olympus in June: Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The two of them are on fire, reaching the championship stage at Roland Garros and then winning Halle on grass. Truly exciting times for them too, as they now rank No. 10 and No. 11 in the ATP doubles rankings.
Moving on to the XXVI Euro Games, where Italian athletes won 24 medals, making Italy the number one nation in the games. Gianmarco Tamberi stole the spotlight by breaking his own high jump record. Celebrated in style, just like his beard, Tamberi is on another level.
All we hope for now is to see the Italian soccer team continue to battle and aim for the Euro trophy for the second time in a row!
Until next time, stay tuned for more exciting updates from Italy.
